National Honor Society/Honorati
National Honor Society
To be inducted into the MHS Arista Chapter of the National Honor Society, a student must achieve a cumulative (9-12) average of 90.0% or higher, have no disciplinary referrals, and have no failing classes. If students meet the academic criteria, they are tapped, which means they may be considered for induction into the organization. Students then submit a Student Activity Information Form, which is designed to support their candidacy. This form includes adult references to the student’s character, leadership, and service—all requirements for membership. The NHS Faculty Council, composed of five teachers selected by the principal and chaired by the (non-voting) adviser(s), reviews the forms.
Honorati
Honorati is a local honor that has been in existence at MHS for over 30 years. To be eligible for Honorati, a student must have an average of 85.0% or higher for four consecutive marking periods: the fourth marking period of the previous school year, followed by the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd marking periods of the current school year. First-time recipients receive a certificate; second-time recipients receive a medal; third-time students receive a small trophy; and fourth-time recipients are given a large trophy.
