AP Language is take in lieu of English 11. Working within the framework of American literature, students will interpret and analyze the rhetorical arguments used in a variety of nonfiction selections, which includes political speeches, letters, personal essays, opinion pieces, and memoir; some fiction (short stories and at least one novel), one play, and several collections of thematically-linked poems; visual texts, including photography, paintings, advertisements, and film (documentaries and docu-dramas). AP students may possibly take the Common Core (Regents) exam in January instead of June; they are also required to take the AP exam in May. A culminating project (e.g. investigative journalism) will be completed after the AP exam.
