School News 🗞️

What a smooth and exciting start to the school year!

Last week, our school community celebrated Homecoming with spirit days, class competitions, and a high-energy pep assembly. Rain on Friday couldn't dampen our spirits, and so many wonderful memories were made!

Homecoming is especially meaningful because it is entirely student-led by our Student Association, guided by advisors Mrs. Cinquino and Mrs. Rosenbeck. Putting on an event of this scale is a massive effort, and we extend a huge thank you to everyone involved for their dedication and hard work.

Seeing the high level of student participation was another highlight of the week. With over half of our 550 students balancing marching band, athletics, or even both, we are so proud of their involvement and commitment!

The debut season for the OC Rivals has been outstanding! The team is currently ranked 2nd in the Class B1 standings.  Rivals cheer brings an incredible wave of energy and OC school spirit!  Come out and support them both in Albion tonight @ 7pm.

To our seniors playing their final fall season of sports as a Mustang, well done!  Thank you to Mr. Kroening and the Mustang Sports Boosters for the senior banners at Vets.

Students planning on attending college should start the application process now if they have not already.  Most students chose to fill out the Common App.  Students can apply FREE to 5 SUNY schools through November 2nd.

TIPS
*Most colleges require a reference letter.  Be sure to ask your teacher/coach first before you list their email.

*Avoid Senioritis!  Colleges check your grades through your senior year.
*Complete your FAFSA.
*Check your email often!
*Use a calendar to keep track of deadlines and important info.

Graduation may seem far away, but planning for it starts now.
*Have you submitted your Senior photo for the yearbook?  Click here for requirements.
*Did you order your cap and gown?  Click here for Jostens ordering.

**Any juniors who are on track to graduate early need to pay attention to these dates as well!

Your senior advisors are Mrs. Duhow and Mrs. Kyle.  Please see them with any questions.

From the Counseling Center 🏫

Welcome Mrs. Lydia Pinto, our new counselor!

Peer Conflict

Disagreements and everyday conflicts are a natural part of growing up, and our primary focus is helping students build the confidence, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving skills they need to resolve issues constructively. We view these moments not just as challenges to manage, but as valuable opportunities for personal growth, self-reflection, and learning personal responsibility.

We follow the following procedure to help grow your child's independence and ability to practice coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.

The overall goal is to promote personal responsibility and conflict resolution.

1. The student will self-reflect their role in the situation.
2. The student will identify strategies on their own to resolve the issue (have a conversation, utilizing coping skills, etc.)
3.The student will inform the teacher or staff member about the situation (if it occurred in the classroom).
  • Teacher response to student: “What are you looking for right now and what is the best way I can support you?”
4. If the situation persists, direct the student to make an appointment with a counselor (if needing additional help with strategies) or inform an administrator (if immediate physical threat).

UConnect Care

The rise in teen vaping remains a serious concern, and open communication at home is one of the strongest protective measures. Talk to your child about the real dangers of vaping—including how it alters brain development and introduces toxic chemicals into their lungs.  Possession of vaping products in school violates our code of conduct.

We are proud to partner with UConnect Care to educate students and reduce the risk of substance use in our school community. If your child needs help or you have questions, please reach out to Arianna Henry at ahenry@medinacsd.org. Support is available at no cost to your family.
